I have a two year old LCD projection HDTV that only has one HDMI port. I needed/wanted to run the video from my new Panasonic BD-35 Blu-ray player and the Dish Network HD box to the TV. With only the one HDMI port the solution (since I love my HDTV) was a HDMI switch box. This little gem works just as advertised without a power supply. It senses the the video component power on and automatically switches to the correct source. I was not sure if it work work since there is a constant feed (input) from the satellite box even in standby mode but when you turn off the programming and turn on the Blu-ray player it switches perfectly on it's own! There is a remote backup and you can switch the inputs manually but it's working great on it's own, switching back and forth automatically. This is a great product especially for the price!!!!

Extremely compact and simple to use (just plug it in and it works). I love the auto switch function. Under normal circumstances you never need to use the included remote. It simply switches to whatever device gets turned on. There is a plug for an external power supply but it does not come with one. I'm not sure why you would need an external supply unless maybe to boost the signal across extremely long cables or perhaps some devices don't provide enough power through their HDMI interface. I'm using it with 6ft cables to switch between an XBox 360 and PS3 and it works flawlessly. It arrived without an HDMI cable but when I contacted CECompass by email they apologized and immediately sent the missing cable. Definitely recommended.

In my home, most of my devices has HDMI output when I realized that my home theater can only take 3 inputs and I have 4. So, I have to create one input for my DVD/VCR which has HDMI out and with my second DVR which also has HDMI. Puchased a terk 2 to 1 automatic switch and it never worked (please read my comment on terk in the cnet). Finally I found this switch, one thing which gave me excitement is the remote and the manual switch with automatic. Most of the devices now a days do not really turn off, so the automatic switches won't work properly because every device is on and the first one got on will be selected. But my fear was compatibility with each of this device which I faced with Terk 1 to 1 switch. Here is my opinion after using it for a month * Works perfecty with all the device, means no compatibility issue * It comes with a external power option does not required, so no power cord * Does not switch automatically not because the switch issue, but the issue I explained before * Manual switch works great, with remote. So, I programmed to my harmoney remote active with this new device. So, when ever I switch the device, the manual switching of port is also done by my harmony remote. So, I kept the remote comes with this in storage. Now I have one more input in this switch for futue expansion, also integrating this with the harmony remote activity, I even forgot I have only 3 inputs for my home theater, everything automatic!!!

I can switch between my PS3, PC, and MacBook extender with a push of a button! Remote works nicely also. I am very pleased with this product.
